Azusa General Plan Update
Azusa, California
Client: City of Azusa
Project Scope: Comprehensive General Plan Update and new form-based zoning code
Project Initiated: 1999
Project Completed: 2004
Project Description
City of Azusa General Plan Update, Form-based Zoning Code, and EIR The City of Azusa, a traditionally blue-collar community of 54,000 primarily Latino residents, sits at the edge of the San Gabriel Valley, with ready access to regional freeways and scenic gateways into the recreation resources of the San Gabriel Mountains. In the late 1990s, this quiet, unassuming city initiated an ambitious program to reinvent itself and empower residents to direct changes in the community. The program, led by Hogle-Ireland's Lisa Brownfield (serving as a contract planner to the City), included an extensive two-year-long community outreach effort that led to development of a new General Plan and form-based zoning code. Hogle-Ireland's Sam Gennawey (while with another firm) helped direct community outreach based on a series of Community Congresses. |
