Hogle-Ireland Wins City of Redwood General Plan Update
August 2007
Hogle-Ireland, Inc. recently was awarded the contract for the Redwood City General Plan Update. Redwood City, a community of 75,000 residents and a significant business population, is strategically located on the San Francisco Bay peninsula. The project involves recognizing the significant steps Redwood City has taken to reinvent its historic downtown into an urban district and building upon those efforts to create a new General Plan that reflects new thinking for all districts and neighborhoods. The program includes a creative community engagement process that will help residents and the business community work through a series of "what if" scenarios to envision and illustrate the City 20 years hence.
Key community goals that will be reflected in the General Plan include continuing to improve Downtown and its historic character, revitalizing tired commercial corridors, protecting the integrity of residential neighborhoods, and creating a balance between development pressures and bay ecological issues. The Plan will focus on sustainability, "healthy cities," and creating great neighborhoods and districts.
The project will be headed up by the Hogle-Ireland, Inc. Pasadena team consisting of policy planners, economists, environmental planners, urbanists, urban designers, traffic engineers, and community outreach specialists.
