Hogle-Ireland Receives Three APA Awards

June 2009

Hogle-Ireland is pleased to announce that we recently received three APA awards for planning projects in Southern California! The Shoppes at Chino Hills Specific Plan was awarded the 2009 Inland Empire APA Planning Project Award and a 2009 Orange County APA Award of Merit. Hogle-Ireland was also awarded the Los Angeles APA award for Best Planning Practice for the Station Square Transit Village Specific Plan for the City of Monrovia. A brief description of each project is provided below.

The Shoppes at Chino Hills Specific Plan
Chino Hills, CA

In cooperation with the City of Chino Hills, and developer Opus West, Hogle-Ireland wrote “The Shoppes at Chino Hills Retail/Civic Center/Mixed Use/Residential/Community Park Specific Plan” (Specific Plan). The Specific Plan is an effort to address the City of Chino Hill’s long-term objectives including creation of a central gathering place for the community, establishing a permanent government center, maintaining and enhancing park and recreational facilities and expanding the City’s economic base. The Specific Plan area includes two planning areas totaling 100 acres. The land use plan allows for the development of 550,000 square feet of commercial, retail, office and restaurant uses, 300 hotel rooms, a new 133,060 square foot civic center, a 43 acre community park and a 19,000 square foot community center. The intention of the Specific Plan is to create a diverse environment catering to the needs of residents with differing lifestyles. The Specific Plan area is the hub of the City in the form of a traditional downtown, civic center, and community park and is complemented by upscale multi-family housing. The project is a source of civic pride. Project was initiated in January of 2005 and opening day for the project commenced in May of 2008.

Station Square Transit Village
Monrovia, CA

Hogle-Ireland, Inc. served as the lead consultant for the development of the Station Square Transit Village Specific Plan, coordinating the public outreach effort and preparing the Specific Plan document. The Specific Plan proposes an innovative transit oriented development integrating the future extension of the Metro Gold Line with a mix of uses, ranging from retail shops and restaurants to high tech research and development office space and upscale multifamily housing. The overall concept for the project, including the name, is focused on the inclusion of a large central open space area, a linear park, paseos and pocket parks to provide connectivity for residents and visitors between onsite uses and the future Gold Line station. This innovative project was seen by the City of Monrovia as an opportunity to revitalize an urban area and connect the City into a regional transportation network through the Gold Line extension. The Specific Plan effort was a partnership between Hogle-Ireland, Inc., the City of Monrovia and developer Samuelson & Fetter and was adopted by the Monrovia City Council in December of 2008.
